Returning in 2017

Two friends,
a few glasses of wine,
a lazy Sunday afternoon,
and the Lake Tekapo Fete was born

The first one was in March 2009 under the name Lake Tekapo High Country Fete. After two years it was clear we needed more hands on deck and so a committee was formed. Then we had a name change to NZ MADE Fete so we could concentrate on products being sold that have been "Made in New Zealand” to showcase the amazing local talent. The Fete is now run voluntarily by 5 committee members who all run their own businesses in Lake Tekapo.

It is a one day fundraising event that was originally started to assist the local Primary School with funding for a second teacher. It has since grown so well that we now incorporate other local community groups that can apply to us for financial assistance.

We love to support locally made art, crafts & other funky stuff however we expect a very high standard of workmanship. Something that has proven very popular with visitors & stallholders alike according to surveys we have undertaken. The NZ MADE tag line is a unique attribute of the Fete and very important to us to keep this as a special feature – a good reason to come to Tekapo!

Our objective is to continue this event on an annual basis and develop it to be the biggest and best selection of New Zealand Made products for sale in the South Island while continuing with the theme of a fun, family orientated, affordable day out in the country.

Our first Fete opened with only 50 stallholders and we made a donation of $3,000 to the Lake Tekapo Primary School. Over the past six years we have made donations totalling over $24,000. In March 2012 we had a themed event for St Patricks Day. We had our best attendance on record with over 1,000 people through the gates and just on 100 stallholders.

Our 2014 donations were made to the Lake Tekapo Primary School, Tekapo Playgroup, Lake Tekapo Voluntary Fire Brigade, Mackenzie Ice Hockey and Tekapo Lions.
